The term "pilot testing" refers to the process of using a group of CPAs to test a course before it is released to the public. All issues with the course are noted and the CPA completes a questionnaire about the course.

Self study CPE courses for CPAs must be pilot tested to determine the number of CPE credits for the course, which is based partly on the average completion time of the pilot testers. All testing is performed as per NASBA Guidelines.

Number of people in a pilot test group

Time for completion of pilot test

If a course cannot be completed in the stated time frame, then ordinarily no CPE credit for the course is given.
